One small step

I had my doctor’s appointent today. It actually went really quite well. The doctor was really good about it all. I checked firstly that she was aware of the term transgender and what it meant, and told her that I am trans and have decided to so something about it. She asked a few basic questions, which gender did I identify with, what actions did I want to take, what did I want the NHS to do. She was pretty respectful too and would check first of all if it was ok to ask something. I told her what I knew about the clinic in Glasgow and the information I had on surgeons. She was quite pleased that I had done my research and was able to tell her fully what I wanted to do. She actually asked me to kinda formally word my request so she could record it all on my file.

In all it took about 10 minutes, and she said she would need to check with her collegues about which clinic I would be refered to. She told me she would check this out and call me back to let me know how she got on. I was pleasently surprised to get a call from her about an hour later. She has sent the referal to the Sandyford Clinic in Glasgow and they will come back to me with a time and date for an appointment.

The whole thing went very smoothly, really quite painlessly. I’m glad I did it and that she was as cool with it as she was. I actually kinda got the impression I was maybe her first case and seemed pleased to have the opportunity. Now it’s just a case of waiting to hear from the clinic!
